Aztec Adventure Upton Warren Wild Swimming

Aztec Adventure Upton Warren is a 20-acre stream-fed lake on Worcester Road, Upton Warren, Bromsgrove B61 7ER, just off M5 junction 5, on a Site of Special Scientific Interest. 400m clockwise course. RLSS-trained lifeguards on and off the water. Changing rooms, hot showers, lockers. You go because Worcestershire has a bookable Wednesday-evening loop with boats out and a café after. You also go knowing the 2026 season is one evening a week, it ends 9 September, and if the water is under 11.5°C they do not run it.

Getting in

£8 plus booking fee. Online only. No walk-ins. Bookings close 30 minutes before the session. Wednesday 18:00–19:30, 6 May to 9 September 2026. Arrive any time in the window; the session finishes promptly at 19:30. Loyalty: buy nine, the tenth is free. 18+, competent. Fewer than four open-water swims: tell the Beach Master, and bring or hire a tow float.

Bright hat is mandatory. Tow float strongly recommended. Wetsuit highly recommended; compulsory under 16°C. They do not hire open-water wetsuits. Change in the brick changing rooms, then walk the gravel path to the kayak beach and sign in. Free lockers, 18 of them, in the changing entrance. Male and female over-18 rooms, plus family and disabled (Radar key from staff). Free customer parking left and right as you drive in; gates lock after the last session. Overflow at Webb’s Garden Centre if you respect their closing time. Bromsgrove station about three miles. No dogs — Natural England condition on the SSSI. Assistance dogs are the exception.

Cancel: 8+ days full refund or free amend; 5–7 days amend only; inside 5 days neither. Thunder: off the water for at least 30 minutes; they may not restart. Rain goes ahead.

The swim

Clockwise, 400m, stream-fed, water tested. Lifeguards on the bank and in boats. Beach Masters for first-timers. Toilets, changing, hot showers. Boat Shack Café — 18 July to 31 August 2026 they were daily 10:30–16:30, full menu until 15:00; from 1 September weekdays 10:30–15:00. That café window is daytime. A Wednesday 18:00 swim is after food service unless they have said otherwise. Picnic benches. Free wifi if you ask for the password. Spectators allowed, keep numbers down.

It is also an aqua park, boat-hire and launch site. Those have different hours and ages. Swimming is only during designated open-water sessions. Stay off other people’s craft. Ducks, geese, fish in the lake.
