Watersedge Wild Swimming

Lake

Watersedge is an 11-acre private lake at Bishampton, Worcestershire, opened by sisters Emily and Sophy in 2022. Loops at 750m, 300m and 150m plus a dip zone; which loops are in depends on temperature. They say water quality has only ever rated Excellent. Open-water lifeguards on swim sessions. Wood-fired saunas, ice cabin, coffee hut. You go because Worcestershire has a year-round bookable lake with a long loop, and because beginners are actually welcome. You also go knowing it is a wellness site with lodges, not a PAYG gravel pit you wander into. Postcode will send you to the wrong gate. Search “Watersedge.club” or What3Words encoding.thickened.flickers.

Getting in

Pre-book. Pay-as-you-go exists; membership exists. Session prices sit on the booking screen, not as a public tariff on the swim page — do not guess them. First visit: book as Newcomer. After that, Bandholder. Sports Guardian or Beyond Swim medical ID band. First session they will lend a guest band; then buy or hire. Other venues’ bands can work here if the medical data is on them.

Summer timetable 1 May–30 September: Sunday 08:30–12:30; Monday 17:45–19:45; Wednesday 07:00–10:00 and 17:00–20:00; Friday 07:00–11:00; Friday bi-weekly 19:00–20:45. Winter they keep swimming; below 15°C they want cold-water experience or their intro course, and a woolly or neoprene hat. Bookings are non-refundable. Reschedule 48 hours out as credits, valid three months. Each person books their own account. Late for the safety brief and you can be refused.

The swim page is 18+ for the regular grid, with limited under-18 summer spaces via activities@watersedge.club. The contact FAQ also describes 8+ after a competency check, on a 350m loop, bright hat, wetsuit below 21°C, parent on the bank for 8–15s. Email if you are bringing a child. Do not assume the adult timetable.

The swim

Countryside lake, marked loops, lifeguards. Check in at the Horsebox by the water, not the studio. Tow float recommended; hire if you forgot. Adult skins are allowed year-round. Under-18s wetsuit below 21°C. Coffee hut during swim sessions. Changing: private rooms in the Sauna Village, plus a stretch tent — heated to 25°C with sides on in winter. Free parking, disabled bays, ramp to the water, accessible loo.

Sauna is a different ticket. Löyly, Bastu and Vihta, ice cabin, lake immersion in the roped standable zone only. Want the 750m loop as well, book a swim. Stays are a different product. Overnight guests still book the supervised sessions; they do not get the lake at dawn because they slept here.

Worth knowing

Thunder, high wind and unsafe weather cancel; rain usually does not. Dogs on a lead, not in the lake, not in the tent. No smoking around the water. The beach during regular swims is members and staying guests; everyone else books a beach session.

It is adult-leaning on purpose. If you want a family splash quarry with a café queue, this is the wrong Worcestershire. If you want a long loop, a lifeguard, and a wood-fired box after, it is. Bring warm layers. The horsebox is check-in, not a suggestion.
