Wild Swim Spots is a UK website run by Simon Gardner. This page is about what happens when you visit wildswimspots.co.uk.

What this site does not do

There are no logins and no user accounts. There is no contact form, newsletter signup or checkout. I don’t scrape this site, your device, or other websites to build extra profiles on you. I don’t sell lists of visitors.

If you email me, I use that message to reply. I don’t add you to a mailing list.

Google tools

I use three Google products on or around this site:

• Google Analytics (via Google Site Kit), to see which pages get used. Google may set cookies and process usage data such as approximate location, device and pages viewed. It is not used to run accounts on this site.
• Google AdSense, to show ads. Google and its partners may use cookies or similar tech to serve and measure ads, including ads based on your visit here and on other sites. You can opt out of personalised ads through Google’s ad settings.
• Google Search Console, so I can see how the site appears in Google Search. That is a webmaster tool. It does not put a login or extra tracker on the public pages.

Google is the processor for that data. Their own privacy policy applies to what they collect. I don’t get a feed of your name or email from Analytics, AdSense or Search Console.

Cookies

The site may set a cookie banner (SureCookie) so you can accept or refuse non-essential cookies. Analytics and advertising cookies are the ones that matter here. Essential cookies keep the site working. You can also block cookies in your browser.

Legal basis (UK GDPR)

Cookie-based Analytics and ads run on consent where the banner asks for it. Replying to an email you sent me is a legitimate interest: you asked.

I don’t make automated decisions about you and I don’t send your data outside this setup other than through Google. Google may process data outside the UK under its own terms.

How long things are kept

I don’t keep a visitor database. Emails sit in an inbox for as long as needed to deal with the request, then I delete them. Google holds Analytics and ads data under Google’s retention settings.

Your rights

You can ask what personal data I hold, have it corrected or deleted, or object to how it’s used. For this site that usually means an email you sent me, because I don’t store browsing profiles myself. You can also complain to the ICO (ico.org.uk).
